Bob “Harpo” Gladieux is pressed into action by the Boston Patriots.
September 20, 1970
Cut from the team the week before, Gladieux is paged by the public address announcer just before the team’s first game of the season at Harvard Stadium. Gladieux later confesses that he had spent the previous several days drinking and hadn’t even planned to attend the game. After reporting to the locker room, the hung-over Gladieux suits up and makes the tackle on the opening kickoff. The Patriots go on to beat the Miami Dolphins 27-14.
